Clips and audio errors can take the shine of your final mix. A few common problems can be solved in these ways.
Clicks when using audio
When your editing audio files you can seem to produce very harsh clicks at either the beginning or end of the sample. This is caused by the sudden commencement or conclusion of audio.
You can avoid this by using a very short fade in or out on the sample. Zoom in to great detail and tailor the fade to remove the click but leave the rest of the audio unaffected.
Clipping
Clipping can occur in various places during the mix and degrade the quality of the overall result. Firstly check the level meters of any plug-ins on your instrumental channel.
Always leave a large amount of headroom on the overall channel volume for adjustment later. Clipping here will degrade the mix.
Going into the red on the master / stereo output channel should always be avoided. Especially when mixing down but also during the mix stage to keep an accurate representation of how you mix is sounding.
Mixdown Errors
Anomalies can occur when you mixdown your track. Parts of the track can skip, stutter or stretch. Causes can be the AISO driver. Try selecting the original driver for your Soundcard or standard driver for your host programme.
Too Much Load on the CPU. If you are using a lot of plug-ins and channels it can stretch the performance of your computer causing errors at mixdown. Try ‘freezing’ some of the channels or instruments which will free up some processing power.
