Step 1

 

Remove everything from the  stereo / master output channel, including Compressors, Limiters etc. For good mix practice there should not be any plugins on this channel at all.



As the track came together most EQ and levels etc should have been applied whilst building the track.R

Step 2

Turn the stereo master output fader down so the peak music level does not go above - 4.0 dB. There should be some space between the peak music level and the top of the level meter.



This allows the mastering engineer enough headrom to apply compression and his unique effects without the track been over compressed losing dynamic range.T

Step 3

 

Mixdown or bounce your track in your normal way depending on your software, in Cubase this would be FILE - EXPORT - AUDIO MIXDOWN.



Be sure to mixdown in the format the mastering engineer would like, I would recommend 24bit 48khz but some may ask for it in a different format.

Step 4

 

To check your WAV has mixed down correctly open it in your normal audio editor and check the wav file.
